CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
ELLE WOODS
Picturesque, confident, and bubbly–Elle is the quintessential blonde Valley Girl who is so much more than meets the eye. Elle is privileged socially and financially, but Elle is kind and is not, at any point, to be portrayed as a spoiled brat. This actor should be a triple threat, and able to carry the momentum of the show (she is onstage for nearly the entire runtime). Elle must be comfortable with stage intimacy and levels of suggestive movement and dance, as well as working closely with dog actors.
Female Presenting 18+
Vocal Range F#3 - F5
EMMETT FORREST
Emmett is charming, a little bit nerdy, loveable, and accepting. He gravitates towards honesty, and is why he becomes fast friends and a mentor to Elle. Emmett has worked nearly non-stop to put himself through school while working other jobs. He is magnetized towards honesty. Emmett is not here to save Elle by any means, but rather serves as reality checks for her to unlock her potential. Emmett must be comfortable with stage intimacy as well as working with dog actors
Male Presenting 18+
Vocal Range A2 - A4
PAULETTE BUONAFONTE
Paulette is the charming, eccentric owner of Hair Affair, a local salon. She is a dreamer at heart who longs for adventure and being loved–something she feels she has missed her chance on so she does her best to inspire Elle to be bold and not miss her chances. A Bostonian accent is a plus!! Paulette must be comfortable with stage intimacy and suggestive dance/movement as well as working with dog actors.
Female Presenting Late 20s+
Vocal Range G3 - A5
PROFESSOR CALLAHAN
A deceptively charming, authoritative, and manipulative law professor with a strict and callous reputation. He is well-established in his careers and dangles opportunity in front of impressionable people. He will do anything, regardless of morality, to achieve his goals and aspirations. Must be comfortable with stage intimacy and stage slap.
Male Presenting LATE 20s+
Vocal Range F2 - A#4
WARNER HUNTINGTON III
Life is mapped out for Warner to the letter. While objectively good-looking and intelligent, he is shallow and self-absorbed. Warner never sees a relationship with Elle blossoming past college fun and freedom; discrediting her as a dumb, one-dimensional woman. Warner cares most about his reputation and perception of those around him and does not want to be associated with anything that ‘lowers’ his social status. Must be comfortable with stage intimacy.
Male Presenting 18+
Vocal Range A2 - G#4
VIVIENNE KENSINGTON
Vivienne is the counter to Elle. A studious, serious, and uptight student from a conservative background. Vivienne has taken extreme measures to never be viewed as ‘lesser’ than her male peers by being callous and smothering her own femininity, seeing it as weakness instead of strength. Vivienne has fought hard for her place at Harvard and refuses to take Elle seriously for most of the show; willing to discredit Elle’s intellect based on on she carries and presents herself. Must be comfortable with stage intimacy.
Female Presenting 18+
Vocal Range A3 - Ab5
BROOKE WYNDHAM
A popular workout/fitness influencer with a massive following and a connection to Elle’s sorority. Physically fit and overly conscious of her appearance and reputation. She is on trial for her husband’s murder in a high profile case. High level dance skills and physical stamina is imperative to the role, as she will be expected to carry out acrobatics and workouts while singing.
Female Presenting 18+
Vocal Range A3 - G5
ENID HOOPS
Enid is a passionate and outwardly feminist law student at Harvard, who is skeptical of Elle by her appearance, and eventually becomes her friend. This actor will have exceptional comedic timing and be willing to be bold!
Female Presenting
SERENA, MARGOT, AND PILAR (18+)
Elle’s closest friends and sorority sisters, who help to guide Elle’s journey even at Harvard where they serve as her own personal ‘Greek Chorus’ to help Elle make sense of the world around her. All 3 should be high energy performers as singers, dancers, and actors. All with their own gigantic personalities who seek to constantly uplift and celebrate the women around them.
Female Presenting 18+
KATE
The brainiest and quirkiest sorority sister in Delta Nu, who helps Elle lock in to prepare to get into Harvard Law. She is not mean but she holds Elle accountable to the goals she has set for herself. She has a featured vocal solo in “What You Want”.
Female Presenting
KYLE B. O’BOYLE (18+)
An attractive, smooth-talking UPS delivery man. He is Paulette’s dream guy. Irish dance skills
Male Presenting 18+
ENSEMBLE
The ensemble for Legally Blonde is imperative to the success and storytelling of the show. A wide range of talented singers, dancers, and actors will be asked to make bold choices and shine during massive, show stopping numbers. They will play a variety of Delta Nu Members, Fraternity guys, Law Students, Prison inmates, etc. There are many featured vocal and performance moments in the show for the ensemble and many specific characters.
