From Tony winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, creators of such Broadway classics as Ragtime and Once On This Island, this dazzling show transports its audience from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing con man and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love and family.

AUDITION INFORMATION

Since there may be some members of the cast may be under 18, all cast-members will be required to have their clearances. This will be need to be presented to the stage manager and production crew when requested.

Please prepare each of the following vocal cuts for the roles in which you are auditioning for. If you would like to be considered for multiple roles, prepare all songs associated with all roles for which you wish to be considered. We may or may not request to hear more than one selection, but please be prepared in case we would like to hear more. The tracks provided below will be the same exact tracks used for auditions. The vocal cuts do not need to be memorized.

DANCE AUDITIONS
Please be ready to dance a ballet combination. Wear clothes and shoes that will help you be successful.

If you are unable to come to the auditions on September 5th and 6th, please know we will be accepting online video submissions. Please record your vocal cut from the available materials. Submissions are due no later than Sunday, September 5th at 6pm so our creative team is able to view your tape in a timely manner. All auditioning with video submissions must be able to be at callbacks in person on September 18th.

PERFORMANCE DATES

Performances will be December 4th - December 20th. Performances will take place from Friday to Sunday. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM

TECH REHEARSAL

Tech rehearsal will take place from November 29th - December 3rd. Please note that tech rehearsal is mandatory for all actors.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

ANYA

When we first meet Anya, she is a lost soul, but one with great strength, pride, determination, and dignity. As the story progresses, she begins to discover her sense of self and the possibility that she may be the missing daughter of Tsar Nicholas. Must move well.

Range: G3-F5, Belt to D5

DMITRY

The prince of St. Petersburg’s black market, Dmitry is an opportunist trying to make it on the streets of Russia by selling stolen objects from the Tsarist past. He creates the scheme to find an Anastasia impersonator in order to gain the reward for her safe return. He’s tough, persuasive, and daring. Must move well.

Range: A2-G4

DOWAGER EMPRESS

She is the formidable and imperious grandmother of Anastasia. Anastasia is her favorite grandchild, and she loves her with all her heart. She never gives up the belief that her granddaughter might be alive but finally, after years of enduring impersonators, she becomes bitter and hardened. Will double as ensemble members.

Range: G3-C5

GLEB

Gleb is a son of the Russian revolution. As a career officer in the Bolshevik secret police, he is a passionate defender of the hard-won gains of the new order. His attraction to Anya puts him in violent conflict with himself. Which will he choose?

Range: A2-Gb4.

VLAD

Before the revolution, Vlad was a minor functionary at the imperial court. He’s Dmitry’s right-hand man, and because of his romantic relationship with Lily, he arranges a meeting between Anya and the Dowager Empress. Serves as a comic relief character. Must move well.

Range: A2-F4. Comic Baritone

LILY

The confidante and lady-in-waiting to the Dowager Empress. She’s compassionate, respectful, and good at her job, but also delightful and worldly when she’s not with the Dowager. Serves as a comic relief character. Must move well. Will double as ensemble members. 

Range: G3-C5

YOUNG ANASTASIA

The daughter of the Tsar of Russia. A sweet and impressionable young princess. Shows up throughout the show in “ghost” form. Must move well.

Range: C4-C5

TSAR NICHOLAS

A loving father. Elegant. He tries to keep the peace between his mother, the Dowager Empress, and the Tsarina. As his youngest daughter grows into a young woman, he protects and guides her. Doubles as ensemble member.

TSAR ALEXANDRA

A stern mother. Very devout, brittle, paranoid about the collapsing regime and grief-stricken about the health of her son, the Tsarevich. Uncomfortable around her mother-in-law. Doubles as ensemble member.

YOUNG ALEXEI

Anastasia’s younger brother (stage age 8-12). Will also double as ensemble member.

ANNA

Lady-in-Waiting of the Romanov family. Died with them.

OLGA/TATIANA/MARIYA

Anastasia’s three teen sisters. Will all double as ensemble members.

EUGENE

Personal physician of Young Alexei. Died with them.

ALEXIE

Footman of the Romanov family. Died with them.

IVAN

Cook of the Romanov family. Died with them.

COUNT LEOPOLD

He’s one of the presumptive Romanov heirs; a snob; a bit of a fop. Doubles as ensemble members

COUNT IPOLITOV

A dignified White Russian and Intellectual gried stricken about leaving his homeland. Authoritative and formidable. Doubles as ensemble member.

SIEGFRIEND

Featured Ballet Dancer. Will double as ensemble members.
