Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor is a funny and poignant recollection of his writing days on Sid Caesar's Show of Shows. The play takes place in the turbulent McCarthy era as a group of writers attempt to keep the fictional Max Prince Show at the top of the ratings game. Lucas is a young writer just joining a neurotic staff made up of the stressed out Russian head writer Val, the flamboyant Milt, the Irish-American Brian, the wiz-kid Kenny, the Jewish hypochondriac Ira and Carol, the staff's only woman (but who notices?) Add Max in all his pill-popping glory along with his ditsy secretary Helen and Simon's characters take on a the trials of budget cuts, pregnancy and neurotic breakdowns to create a true modern classic right there on the 23rd story. Look out for falling shoes! |
