THE PENNSYLVANIA PLAYHOUSE
2017 ORIGINAL PLAYWRITING COMPETITION
Only one manuscript per playwright may be entered and will be considered. Only full length plays (approximately 90 to 120 minutes performance time) will be accepted. Musicals will not be considered. There is a $25 entry fee.
The play may have been previously performed. Any past production history should be included with the submission. The Pennsylvania Playhouse “Original Play Submission Form” must be completed by the playwright and included with the submission, and shall include the playwright’s contact information, with confirmation that the submission is the sole work product of the playwright who alone has authority to grant production rights.
Plays may be submitted for consideration by two methods:

Upon completion of your electronic submission call our box office at 610-865-6665. Leave your name, phone number and name of your play on our answering machine and a member of our box office staff will contact you to obtain your credit card information for your non-refundable $25 entry payment.

Submissions must be typed, one-sided on white 8.5 x 11 paper.
Submissions must comply with recognized standard format for stage plays.
Please include a synopsis and description of the characters.
Mail submission must be accompanied by a check in the non-refundable amount of $25 made payable to the “Pennsylvania Playhouse.”
If you mail your manuscript it must also exist in a format which permits the electronic transmission of the manuscript if requested.
While the playwright is encouraged to copyright his or her work product, the playwright agrees by the act of submission of a manuscript that the Board maintains the right to copy and distribute the manuscript as the Board deems appropriate.
The winning script will have a full production presented at the Pennsylvania Playhouse on October 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2018. The playwright must agree to attend at least one performance. The Playhouse is unable to reimburse for travel expenses.
Submissions must be received no later than November 30, 2017
Submissions cannot be returned to the playwright unless accompanied by a pre-paid stamped self addressed envelope large enough to accommodate the return mailing.
The Pennsylvania Playhouse shall provide a director, cast, technical staff, ticketing, costumes, set design, and publicity for the production.
Notice of the winning play shall be announced on or about January 3, 2018.
Submissions may encompass comedic or dramatic subject matter, or any genre appropriate for an audience patronizing a community theatre. Musicals may not be submitted. The cast must be limited to no more than eight actors but they may appear in multiple roles.
No royalty will be paid. The Pennsylvania Playhouse retains all proceeds derived from the production and the playhouse shall sustain the costs of the production.
Production shall take place in a “black box” setting.
Members of the Board of Directors and Play Selection Committee of the Pennsylvania Playhouse may not submit original plays for consideration.
